The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of February 14 at Quilox Restaurant and Lounge in the East Flatbush area, with reports indicating the shooting happened around 4:25 a.m.
Preliminary accounts suggest the suspect, involved in a disturbance inside the club, was being escorted out by security when the situation escalated. While being led out, the individual allegedly produced a firearm and opened fire.
Witnesses reported that the suspect had behaved disorderly and was accused of making inappropriate advances toward female guests, including Shittu’s girlfriend, leading to a heated exchange.
Shittu had attended the club with his younger brother, Fawaz Shittu, to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Fawaz described the moment as devastating, recalling his frantic attempts to get his brother to respond after he was shot.
Another relative, Salem Shittu, raised concerns about security at the venue, questioning how a firearm could have passed through entrance screening. He emphasized that stricter security measures might have prevented the tragedy.
Law enforcement officials said the suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting and remains at large, with investigations ongoing.
Shittu was rushed to One Brooklyn Health, Brookdale University Hospital Medical Centre, where he was later pronounced dead.
Family members remembered him as a determined and creative young man who had moved to the United States to grow his fashion business and build a better future.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
