Premier League Racism Crisis Deepens As Tolu Arokodare, Mundle Speak Out After Fresh Abuse.

English football is once again grappling with racism after Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare and Sunderland winger Romaine Mundle were targeted with abusive messages on social media over the weekend.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The incidents have raised alarm across the Premier League, with four top-flight players reporting abuse within a 48-hour span. Anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out called it an “appalling weekend,” highlighting the persistence of the issue.

Arokodare, the 25-year-old Nigeria international, faced a barrage of offensive messages following Wolves’ 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace. He had a frustrating match, seeing a first-half penalty saved before Palace scored a late winner. Wolves condemned the abuse, calling it “abhorrent and unlawful” and saying they were “disgusted” that their player had been targeted by “multiple perpetrators.”

Sharing screenshots of the messages, Arokodare said: “It’s still unbelievable to me that we’re playing in a time where people have so much freedom to communicate such racism without any consequences. These individuals should have no place in our game, and collectively we have to take action to punish everyone who taints the sport like this.”

Wolves added: “Tolu has our full and unwavering support. No player should face such hatred simply for doing their job. We stand firmly alongside him and all footballers who endure abuse from anonymous accounts acting with apparent impunity.”

Sunderland also condemned racist abuse directed at 22-year-old Mundle after he came off the bench in their 3-1 home defeat to Fulham. The club said: “The abhorrent behaviour displayed by multiple individuals is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. These individuals do not represent Sunderland AFC, our values, or our community – and they are not welcome on Wearside.”

Following the abuse, Mundle reportedly deleted his Instagram account. He has previously shared similar discriminatory messages during his time in the Championship.

The weekend’s incidents came after Wesley Fofana and Hannibal Mejbri reported abuse following their 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. The Premier League warned of “serious consequences for anybody found guilty of discrimination” and pledged full support for investigations, which could include club bans and legal action.

Kick It Out said abuse levels this season have hit record highs. “Players are standing up to discrimination, and we’ve had record reports to Kick It Out from across football this season, but the problem continues to fester online,” the charity said. They called on social media companies to do more to protect players and improve accountability.

Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, responded to earlier cases, saying: “No-one should be subjected to racist abuse, and we remove this content when we find it. No one thing will stop racist behaviour overnight, but we’ll continue working to protect our community from abuse and cooperate with police investigations.”

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
