The event continues the President’s three-year tradition of inviting political leaders and senior government officials to break the fast during the holy month. Governors, deputy governors, and top government functionaries attended the gathering.

According to The PUNCH, governors present before 7:00 p.m. included Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Babagana Zulum (Borno), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Mohammed Bago (Niger), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba). The Deputy Governor of Bauchi State was also in attendance.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and several cabinet members were among the other guests.

Naija News reports that in previous years, President Tinubu has used the Iftar to promote unity among political leaders and emphasise selfless service. At the 2025 edition, he urged governors and ministers to prioritise the welfare of Nigerians, saying, “Do more for your people,” while stressing national cohesion, describing Nigeria as “one big family living under the same roof.”

Similarly, in 2024, he encouraged state governors to put aside political differences and focus on governance, declaring, “The time for politics is over. It is now time for governance.”

President Tinubu is expected to host further Iftar events with senior officials, traditional rulers, and members of the diplomatic corps as Ramadan continues. In past years, former President Muhammadu Buhari also hosted leaders of the National Assembly, the Judiciary, party officials, and other stakeholders at similar fast-breaking events.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
