The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Collation Officer for AMAC, Andrew Abue, announced the result at the collation centre, confirming that Maikalangu, the incumbent chairman, secured the highest number of votes in the election.

Maikalangu polled 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast, emerging as the winner.

“That Maikalangu of the APC, having fulfilled all legal requirements, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Abue said.

ADC, PDP Trail Behind

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 3,398 votes.

Other party results announced include:

  • Accord (A) – 403

  • Action Alliance (AA) – 108

  • Action Democratic Party (ADP) – 588

  • All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) – 1,111

  • Allied Peoples Movement (APM) – 122

  • Action Peoples Party (APP) – 32

  • Boot Party (BP) – 43

  • New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) – 1,694

  • National Rescue Movement (NRM) – 73

  • Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) – 90

  • Social Democratic Party (SDP) – 2,185

  • Young Progressives Party (YPP) – 421

  • Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) – 189

Voting Statistics

Abue revealed that 2,336 votes were rejected, bringing the total votes cast to 65,197. AMAC has 837,338 registered voters, with 65,676 accredited for the election.

Party Agents Praise Election

Reacting to the results, APC Collation Agent Gambo Babale described the election and collation process as transparent and credible.

“INEC conducted the processes perfectly across all polling units, ward collation centres, and here at the AMAC collation centre,” he said.

Babale highlighted that the PDP won two ward councillorship seats in Karu and Karishi, underscoring the fairness of the exercise. He congratulated Maikalangu, expressing confidence that his victory would lead to improved governance and dividends of democracy for AMAC residents.

The YPP Ward Collation Agent, Abdullahi Ibrahim, also commended the transparency of the process and extended congratulations to the winner.

The result sheets were subsequently signed by party agents from the ADC, APC, APGA, YPP, and NNPP present at the collation centre.
