Ndoma-Egba Supports Otu Over 76 Oil Wells, Dismisses Allegations Of Blackmail.

Former Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, has reaffirmed his full backing of Governor Bassey Otu and Cross River State in all legal and constitutional measures to reclaim the disputed 76 oil wells and safeguard the state’s hydrocarbon resources.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement from Calabar, Ndoma-Egba condemned attempts by certain individuals to misrepresent his stance on the Bakassi Peninsula and the loss of the oil wells, describing such actions as efforts to blackmail and distort facts.

He stated clearly that he stands firmly with Governor Otu, the state government, and the people of Cross River in pursuing lawful and institutional avenues to defend the state’s legitimate territorial and economic interests.

The former Senate Leader also addressed claims that his past Senate contributions suggested disloyalty, explaining that his interventions were always guided by constitutional principles, national interest, and respect for international obligations.

Ndoma-Egba highlighted the sensitivity of the Bakassi issue, noting that the peninsula’s loss led to displacement of communities, limited maritime access, and significant economic consequences for Cross River State. He emphasized that his advocacy has consistently focused on fair revenue derivation, transparent boundary demarcation, and protection of sub-national interests within the law.

Clarifying perceived differences between his past Senate position and his current stance, Ndoma-Egba cited advances in scientific, geological, and geospatial data, which he said now provide stronger evidence supporting Cross River State’s claims to the hydrocarbon assets. He explained that petroleum systems are defined by sedimentary basin structures and reservoir continuity, not administrative or political classifications like littoral status.

He further noted that the 2002 International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling addressed only the boundary delimitation between Nigeria and Cameroon, without determining ownership of oil wells, derivation rights, or internal petroleum allocation within Nigeria. He also argued that the 2008 administrative transfer of certain oil wells to Akwa Ibom State under the Oil Dichotomy Model Map was not a judicial decision but an administrative adjustment requiring further scientific and institutional review.

Ndoma-Egba praised Governor Otu for pursuing evidence-based and lawful steps, including geodetic surveys, inter-agency technical reviews, and scientific verification, to protect Cross River State’s interests. He urged stakeholders to reject misinformation and political manipulation, calling for unity and collective resolve, and reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to pursuing justice for the state through constitutional and legal channels.
