The PDP dominated both the chairmanship and councillorship races at the unit. Official results from Polling Unit 076 (EC 8A, Serial No. 0000258) showed the party receiving 74 votes in the chairmanship contest. The All Progressives Congress (APC) garnered two votes, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) three votes, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) recorded one vote each. Other parties failed to secure any votes.

In the councillorship race, the PDP polled 75 votes, APC received four, ADC two, and SDP one vote, with other parties again scoring zero. Out of 140 registered voters, 92 were accredited. Eleven ballots were rejected in the chairmanship contest, leaving 81 valid votes, while 10 ballots were invalidated in the councillorship race, leaving 82 valid votes. The presiding officer at the unit was Amanyi Judith Ada.

Commenting after the announcement, PDP chieftain and presidential aspirant Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim thanked residents for their support. “This victory belongs to the people. It reflects consistent engagement, listening leadership, and our shared commitment to progress at the grassroots,” he said.

The election at the polling unit was reportedly peaceful, with security personnel present and electoral officials following established procedures.

The result comes amid claims that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, influenced the withdrawal of the PDP candidate on the eve of the election—allegations that had raised tensions ahead of the polls.

Party officials said the near-total sweep at Big Cele Settlement highlights the PDP’s strong grassroots presence in the community and could strengthen the party’s prospects in upcoming elections, including the 2027 general polls.

The FCT Area Council elections, held across all six area councils, are widely seen as a key measure of party mobilisation strength in the nation’s capital.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.

The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
