Party officials described the exercise as peaceful and concluded without conflict. Addressing journalists at the party secretariat in Benin City, state chairman Emperor Jarret Tenebe, alongside a delegation from the APC National Secretariat, urged the newly elected ward executives to provide effective leadership and strengthen the party at the grassroots.

Tenebe called the congress a milestone in Edo State’s political development, saying, “The seamless conclusion of the ward congresses across the 192 wards marks another milestone in our state’s political evolution. Today, we celebrate not only a successful party exercise but also our collective commitment to unity, cohesion, transparency, and inclusivity.”

He noted that the party’s National Working Committee issued clear guidelines for the congresses, which were strictly implemented. “The result is what we see today: a process completed smoothly, without rancor, disharmony, or division,” Tenebe added.

The chairman charged the new leaders to mobilise residents for the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration by INEC, linking the effort to preparations for the 2027 general elections and the party’s goal of delivering strong support for President Bola Tinubu.

“Our Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has pledged to deliver 3.5 million votes for President Tinubu in 2027. This commitment is a shared responsibility,” he said.

Tenebe emphasised the importance of grassroots engagement, describing the ward as the foundation of the party. He urged executives to strengthen party structures, mobilise communities, and ensure the party’s policies resonate locally.

He also highlighted the need for continued voter registration and the protection of Permanent Voter Cards, saying, “The strength of democracy lies in the ballot, and the ballot begins with registration. Our ward executives must drive massive mobilisation and educate citizens on safeguarding their PVCs.”

Finally, Tenebe called on the ward leaders to collaborate with local government executives to maintain the party’s current unity and harmony.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
