Peru’s Interim President Impeached After Four Months In Office.

Peru’s Congress has voted to oust interim president Jose Jeri, just four months after he took office.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Lawmakers approved his removal on Tuesday, making Jeri the seventh leader the country has had in the past decade.

His dismissal stems from allegations involving questionable appointments and suspected corrupt practices. The 39-year-old had been under scrutiny over claims that several women were appointed to government positions after private meetings with him. The allegations first surfaced in a report by a local investigative television programme. Prosecutors later indicated that as many as nine women could be linked to the appointments being examined. Authorities also launched an investigation to determine whether he improperly influenced recruitment decisions.

Beyond the hiring controversy, Jeri is also facing scrutiny over an alleged private meeting with a Chinese businessman said to have business ties with the government. The investigation is focused on claims that he may have provided unlawful support to private interests. Jeri has denied any misconduct.

He assumed office in October 2025 after Congress impeached his predecessor, Dina Boluarte, amid public outrage over corruption allegations and escalating violence linked to organised crime. At the time, Jeri was serving as head of Peru’s unicameral parliament and was chosen to complete Boluarte’s term, which runs until July 2026.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.

The party further alleged that the move is aimed at distracting attention from governance challenges in the state.
