FG To Stop Salaries Of Ghost Workers From March.

Published

The Federal Government has directed that the salaries of civil servants who fail to complete a nationwide verification and skills assessment will be suspended from March 2026.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The decision follows the completion of the Personnel Audit and Skills Gap Analysis (PASGA) conducted across the Federal Civil Service. The directive was conveyed in a memo issued by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and signed by Head of Service, Didi Esther Walson-Jack. The memo was addressed to the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Tunji Olaopa.

The PASGA initiative, launched in 2025, was introduced as part of broader public service reforms following a directive by President Bola Tinubu during the 2025 International Civil Service Week. The exercise aims to ensure that only duly qualified and properly assigned personnel remain on the federal payroll, while also identifying irregular or unverified entries.

Although the audit began last year, authorities noted that some officers have yet to complete either the physical verification or the online skills assessment. Consequently, a final two-week window has been approved for affected staff to regularise their status before the process closes permanently.

The mop-up verification is scheduled to hold in Abuja from February 16 to February 27, 2026. Officials emphasized that participation in both the physical verification and online assessment is mandatory for full compliance.

According to the memo, any officer who does not complete the required steps by the February 27 deadline will be classified as non-compliant. Salaries of such workers will be halted from March 2026, and they may also face further administrative action, including possible termination in line with Public Service Rules.

Key highlights from his address include:

  • Economic and Banking Resilience: He declared that Nigeria’s banking sector has shifted from survival to absolute dominance, becoming one of the safest and most technologically advanced in Africa.

  • Reforms Yielding Results: He credited ongoing bank recapitalisation and financial reforms for ending the era where banks could suddenly collapse and cause depositors to lose their savings.

Ultimately, the Senate President maintained that a combination of proactive security operations, economic reforms, and civic cooperation will drive Nigeria’s path toward lasting recovery and national development.
