According to reports, Adamu stepped down in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Joshua Ishaku Musa.

He said his decision came after consultations with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, adding that he chose to prioritise peace and unity over political rivalry.

Speaking on the matter, Adamu described Joshua as a brother and said it would be unwise for them to clash over the same position. He therefore declared his support for the APC candidate and urged his supporters to rally behind him in the election.

The FCT Area Council elections, scheduled for Saturday, will take place across six councils—Bwari, AMAC, Kuje, Kwali, Abaji, and Gwagwalada—where voters will elect their local representatives.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports suggesting it plans to transmit results of the February 21 FCT Area Council elections in “real time.”

The clarification was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, Adedayo Oketola. He stated that the commission never promised real-time transmission of results and warned that the term “real time” misrepresents INEC’s established electoral procedures.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He wrote, “Chiemeka Chibuzor’s wedding is hereby suspended. More than a thousand applications. No more wedding pending further directive from me.”
