The appointments followed recommendations from the National Judicial Council during its 110th meeting held on January 13–14, 2026, and were subsequently forwarded to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approval.

Speaking to the newly appointed judges, the CJN described their selection as the result of one of the most rigorous, transparent, and technology-driven judicial appointment processes in Nigeria’s history.

She advised them to remain focused on their duties and not be swayed by either praise or criticism.

“Do not allow either praise or criticism to distract you from your constitutional duty,” she cautioned.

Kekere-Ekun emphasized that their rulings must be clear, well-reasoned, and that their conduct should always remain above reproach. She also highlighted the importance of maintaining order and decorum in courtrooms to preserve public trust in the judiciary.

Among the new appointees is Suleiman Hassan High Court, and Onuegbu Chioma, Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, had earlier confirmed that the recommendations were made during the council’s 110th meeting, presided over by the CJN.

The swearing-in of these judges is expected to bolster the capacity of the Federal High Court in managing the growing caseload across its divisions nationwide.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
