The People Will Suffer If We Fight The Ruling Party – Oyo Labour Party.
The Labour Party (LP) in Oyo State has warned that citizens will bear the consequences if the opposition chooses to confront the ruling government, emphasizing that opposition politics should prioritize constructive engagement over conflict.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The party’s State General Secretary, Fatai Ojetunde, made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Ibadan on Tuesday. He explained that an opposition party’s role is to guide governance through constructive criticism, rather than engaging in political battles that could harm residents.
“The government of Oyo State has not met expectations. We want good governance, but do we have it? If we fight the ruling party, it is the people who will suffer. An opposition party should advise, not confront, because citizens bear the brunt when confrontation is chosen,” Ojetunde said.
The party also dismissed reports of internal divisions in the state, affirming confidence in its structure and readiness for upcoming elections. He added that controversies over alleged factions at the national level would be resolved within the next three to four weeks.
“Regarding national-level factions, whether it’s Nenadi or Aburi, they will be settled soon. Currently, there are no factions in Oyo State,” he stated, confirming that Rasheed Atayese remains the recognised chairman of the party in the state following successful congresses in December 2025.
Ojetunde noted that the party is open to welcoming defectors and new members, provided they align with LP’s ideology and principles. “If they align with our ideology, we will accept them. If not, we will not. So far, we haven’t heard of any members leaving LP for another party,” he said.
He expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections, particularly the presidential poll, stressing that the growing support base in Oyo State would translate into electoral success. The Labour Party, he affirmed, remains united and focused on strengthening its structures ahead of future contests.
