El-Rufai, Ribadu Allegations Must Face Judicial Scrutiny — Baba-Ahmed.

Published

Former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, on Tuesday urged that the allegations involving former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai be resolved through the judicial system rather than dismissed as mere political disputes.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm, Baba-Ahmed called for all claims and counterclaims between El-Rufai and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to be tested in court to uncover the truth.

He said, “The straightforward way forward is to put all these allegations on the table. From the corruption claims against Mallam Nasir El-Rufai to the allegations involving Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, including the issue of imported, poisoned chemicals—these are serious legal matters. They must be subjected to judicial scrutiny; sweeping them aside as politics is simply not acceptable.”

The comments come amid a public feud in which El-Rufai alleged that Ribadu ordered his “abduction” at Abuja airport, claiming that Ribadu directed security operatives to take him into custody. The former governor also accused Ribadu of influencing investigations by anti-corruption agencies and the Kaduna State House of Assembly, hinting at a possible political motive tied to a 2031 presidential ambition. El-Rufai further raised concerns about the alleged procurement of thallium sulphate by the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Ribadu has denied the allegations, dismissing claims of presidential ambition and insisting that anti-corruption agencies operate independently.

Baba-Ahmed described the strained relationship between the two men as alarming for Nigeria’s political culture. He said, “I am deeply saddened by this. I know both gentlemen and the depth of their personal relationship, and this situation exposes one of the poisonous elements of our politics. Their friendship has deteriorated to the point where neither seems to consider the consequences, and now we have two friends threatening legal action against each other.”

Offering personal advice to El-Rufai, Baba-Ahmed suggested he focus on addressing corruption allegations. “Mallam El-Rufai is a very difficult person to advise… If I were advising him, I’d say limit the fronts on which you fight and concentrate on clearing yourself of claims of stealing public funds,” he added.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
