A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ibadan North-West State Constituency, Dawood Olalere, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Olalere’s resignation was communicated in a letter dated February 13, 2026, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 7 in Ibadan North-West Local Government Area, a copy of which was obtained in Ibadan on Monday.

The lawmaker stated that his resignation takes immediate effect, citing persistent internal conflicts within the party. He described the move as a response to “long lingering and unresolvable divisions” in the PDP, adding that it aligns with both his personal interests and the expectations of his supporters.

Following the announcement, Olalere led a large group of his followers to St. Patrick Primary School, Abebi, Ibadan, where they were formally received by ADC leadership. He explained his decision, saying, “My choice of ADC is born out of my desire and conviction for a better Nigeria.”

Olalere’s defection is part of a series of high-profile exits from the PDP in Oyo State. In October 2025, former Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Agboola Ayoola, resigned from the party after years of political involvement. An indigene of Itesiwaju Local Government Area, Ayoola previously served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under former governors Rashidi Ladoja and the late Adebayo Alao-Akala between 2003 and 2011, and was the only PDP senator elected from the South-West between 2011 and 2015.

Similarly, former Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde, Bisi Ilaka, resigned from the PDP last week, expressing gratitude to the party for providing him a platform to serve at both state and national levels.

Receiving Olalere and his supporters, ADC State Chairman Yinka Olona described the defection as a major boost for the party. The party’s Publicity Secretary, Bimbo Adelowo, added that the development would strengthen ADC’s structure and prospects ahead of future elections.

He stated, “The state Chairman, Yinka Olona, received Dawood Olalere, the current member representing Ibadan North-West State Constituency, into ADC today, Monday, February 16. With this defection, the party not only gains in membership strength but also secures a seat in the State House of Assembly.”

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
