“I Am Very Disappointed” – Okonkwo Reveals Why INEC Should Reschedule 2027 Elections.

Politician and veteran Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to review the timetable for the 2027 general elections and conduct all polls on the same day.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Okonkwo expressed disappointment that INEC scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections separately from the governorship and state assembly elections. He argued that holding the elections two weeks apart would place unnecessary financial and logistical pressure on the country.

According to him, Nigeria lacks the resources to manage the heavy logistics required for staggered elections within such a short period. He also warned that prevailing security and economic challenges could discourage voters from returning to the polls for a second round, potentially increasing voter apathy.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain called on INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, to merge all elections into a single day. He maintained that nothing in the law prevents the commission from doing so, noting that its guidelines can be adjusted when necessary.

Okonkwo further argued that conducting the elections on one day would significantly reduce the proposed ₦873 billion budget for the exercise, possibly cutting it nearly in half.

INEC had earlier announced that the presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on February 20, 2027, while governorship and state assembly polls are scheduled for March 6, 2027.
