Families of Nigerians from Rivers and Ogun states have voiced anger and sorrow after reports emerged that their relatives were recruited to fight for Russia in the Ukraine war.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

A Nigerian man, captured by Ukrainian forces while serving in the Russian army, recounted that he was allegedly coerced into enlistment under false pretences.

In a video shared on , he explained that his phone was confiscated, and he was forced to sign papers written in Russian without understanding them. He initially thought he was undergoing professional training. After a one-week intensive course and a two-week follow-up, he was abruptly sent to the frontline.

He also described the ordeal of another Nigerian, identified as Abubakar, who suffered a heart episode during training and was hospitalised for five days. After recovery, Abubakar realised he was being forcibly conscripted and refused to comply. Despite signing documents promising a three-month jail term and eventual return to Nigeria, he was reportedly sent to combat without proper military preparation. His current whereabouts remain unknown.

Abubakar Adamu Appeals for Government Help
Abubakar Adamu, another Nigerian, had previously petitioned the Federal Government for urgent intervention to secure his return. He alleged he was lured to Moscow on a tourist visa issued in October 2025, expecting civilian security work, only to have his documents seized and be coerced into signing Russian military enlistment papers without an interpreter.

His lawyers invoked the principle of Non Est Factum, claiming he did not understand the documents he signed, and alleged misrepresentation and coercion. They demand that Russian authorities stop any deployment, return his documents, and facilitate his safe repatriation.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Defence Ministry released photos of two Nigerians, Hamzat Kazeem Kolawole and Mbah Stephen Udoka, reported killed while fighting for Russia in Luhansk. Kolawole enlisted in August 2025 and Udoka in September 2025, both without prior military training. They reportedly died attempting to storm Ukrainian positions.
