The dismissed officers were identified as Sgt. Ekwueme Gift, Sgt. Eto Ikechukwu, and Cpl. Divine Ogwuaru. Their dismissal followed an orderly room trial that found them guilty of the offences, including impersonation.
A civilian accomplice, Elias Chukwu, who allegedly served as the driver during the operation, has also been charged alongside the officers.
The criminal act reportedly occurred on February 8, 2026, along Mbaise Road in Owerri, where the suspects allegedly robbed residents at gunpoint and seized a vehicle. The stolen car was later tracked to the Owerri-Onitsha Road while the suspects were reportedly attempting to dispose of it before being apprehended.
Police sources revealed that the dismissed officers were not on official patrol duty on the day of the incident and had falsely presented themselves as members of the Tiger Base Unit while committing the crimes.
Their actions were found to contravene Paragraph E (i) and (iii) of the First Schedule of the Police Act and Regulation 370, punishable under Regulation 371 of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, as amended.
Imo State Police Commissioner, CP Audu Bosso, reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance policy for corruption and unprofessional conduct. He directed the Command’s Legal Department to ensure the immediate arraignment of the suspects in court.
“It will no longer be business as usual for erring officers in this command. Any officer found guilty of misconduct or criminality will face the full weight of the law,” Bosso stated.
He urged members of the public to provide credible information to help sanitize the system, assuring that more officers under investigation will face similar disciplinary action if found guilty.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Henry Okoye explained that the officers were swiftly apprehended, thoroughly investigated, and summarily dismissed in accordance with the laws governing Nigeria Police personnel. He added that the suspects will be charged to court to answer the allegations against them.
Okoye emphasized that the action highlights the Command’s commitment to accountability, professionalism, and restoring public confidence. He further encouraged residents to report cases of police misconduct via the Complaint Response Unit Desk line: 08148024755, assuring that all reports will be treated with strict confidentiality.

“We Will Rig You!”: Peter Obi Issues Explosive Warning To INEC Over Alleged Election Manipulation!.
During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), argued that the prevalence of election rigging in Nigeria is largely due to voters failing to actively defend their ballots. Obi emphasized that while candidates play a role in the process, credible outcomes ultimately depend on citizens remaining at their polling units to ensure votes are counted transparently. He criticized the “transactional” nature of Nigerian politics, suggesting that many voters prioritize other activities over the essential task of monitoring the electoral process. According to Obi, Nigeria’s primary challenge is poor political leadership, and he urged citizens to take collective ownership of their votes to demand the accountable governance required for the country to succeed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for increased citizen involvement in protecting electoral integrity. During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., Obi stated that election manipulation persists because voters frequently leave polling stations before the counting process is completed. He argued that:

Nigeria’s fundamental obstacle is a crisis of political leadership, rather than a lack of natural or human resources.
-
Real change requires Nigerians to move beyond passive participation and take active responsibility for the electoral process.
