Ndubueze, who chairs the Senate Committee on Steel Development, was presiding over the session with the Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, when the disagreement occurred. He reportedly declined to allow Akpoti-Uduaghan the opportunity to further question the minister.

Natasha had requested permission to raise what she described as critical issues. However, the committee chairman refused and brought the session to a close by striking the gavel.

In response, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Ndubueze of treating her unfairly and argued that the committee had not had sufficient engagement with the minister.

“I have something to say. Please, will you mind if I do so?” she asked.

Ndubueze replied, “Distinguished, please let’s call it a day.”

When she attempted to proceed, he struck the gavel again.

“Mr Chairman, please don’t hit the gavel. I still have something to say, and I think you should respect me enough,” Natasha appealed.

Ndubueze responded while striking the gavel once more: “I have given you respect. Mr Minister, your time is up. Thank you.”

Clearly upset, Natasha fired back: “That is fine. You have disrespected me more than enough. You can’t do this to me. I have something very vital to ask the minister, and it doesn’t matter if I have spoken once or twice. This is an interactive session, and you agree that we have not met with the minister enough. Only God knows when next we’re going to meet with him as a committee.”

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.

The party further alleged that the move is aimed at distracting attention from governance challenges in the state.
