Stronger State-Federal Partnership Key To Taraba’s Progress – Governor Kefas.

Kefas made the statement on Wednesday in Jalingo while hosting officials from the North East Development Commission (NEDC), who visited the state to inspect and commission projects carried out by the commission.
He highlighted that effective cooperation with federal authorities is crucial for fast-tracking growth and progress, stressing that meaningful development is only possible when state policies and programmes are aligned with federal initiatives.
The governor noted that such synergy can attract more investment, expand infrastructure, and improve social services. “Any government that does not partner or collaborate with the Federal Government will be left behind in terms of development,” Kefas said.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government to bring more projects to the state and enhance the welfare of Taraba’s residents.
Earlier, the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigeri Ahmadu, stated that the NEDC has installed streetlights in all local government areas of Taraba State and implemented several water projects across various communities.
Ahmadu explained that these interventions are part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and living standards, particularly for underserved and marginalised populations. “Our trip to Taraba is to inspect and commission projects. The NEDC has provided streetlights to all local government areas and executed water projects across the state. Underserved and marginalised persons have also been reached with support,” he said.
The minister also pledged continued collaboration with the state government, praising Governor Kefas for strengthening federal ties beyond partisan considerations. He noted that such cooperation will further accelerate development efforts as both parties remain committed to advancing Taraba State’s growth.

According to reports, Boateng will serve under head coach Rena Wakama as part of efforts to strengthen the team’s technical setup ahead of upcoming international competitions. The appointment is viewed as a strategic step aimed at improving the squad’s preparation for major tournaments.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the immediate and unconditional release of Islamic scholar Sani Abdulladir Zaria from the custody of security agencies.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Delivering judgment, Justice Peter Lifu held that the cleric’s detention by the Defence Intelligence Agency and the Department of State Services violated his fundamental rights as guaranteed by the Constitution.
The court ruled that the 75-year-old scholar was unlawfully held for over two months without trial, in breach of Sections 35 and 36 of the 1999 Constitution, which guarantee personal liberty and fair hearing.
Justice Lifu also imposed a ₦2 million fine on the Defence Intelligence Agency and the DSS, to be paid to the cleric as compensation for the unlawful detention.
In addition, the court ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Jaiz Bank to each pay ₦1 million for freezing his bank account without a valid court order.
The judge further directed the security agencies involved to issue a public apology to the cleric for the violation of his rights, stressing that all institutions must operate strictly within the limits of the law.
The court criticised the Defence Intelligence Agency for failing to comply with earlier judicial directives, including its refusal to present the detainee in court when required.
Zaria was arrested in December 2025 over allegations of involvement in a plot to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Security agencies alleged he received ₦2 million from a suspect linked to the alleged plot, though he later agreed to forfeit the money.
However, the cleric denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the funds came from a follower and had no connection to any illegal activity.
The court also directed the Attorney General of the Federation to ensure full compliance with its ruling, warning that Nigeria, as a signatory to international human rights agreements, must avoid actions that amount to unlawful detention or victimisation.
