The initiative, which began last week, is part of a broader urban renewal and environmental sanitation drive aimed at enhancing road safety, reducing traffic congestion, and preserving Asaba’s image as a modern capital city.

The operation is being conducted by the DSCTDA Task Force under the direction of the Agency’s Director-General, Mr. Patrick Ukah.

Key locations affected include Akpu Junction, Marble Hill Junction, the Arcade/Ogbeogonogo Market area, Maryam Babangida Way, Okpanam Road (NTA axis), Okpanam Road near the State House of Assembly, Inter-Bau Roundabout, Ibusa Road/Slot, and the Nnebisi Road corridor, where illegal trading and makeshift structures had encroached on road setbacks, walkways, and drainage channels.

Speaking on the enforcement, Ukah described the exercise as a decisive step to reclaim public spaces and restore order in the state capital. He noted that the unchecked spread of roadside trading had long posed safety risks to motorists and pedestrians while disrupting traffic flow and undermining environmental standards.

Ukah emphasized that the operation is not aimed at individuals but at restoring order and enforcing compliance with environmental and traffic regulations. He urged traders to relocate to government-approved markets and warned that the operation would continue and expand to other areas if necessary.

Beyond dismantling illegal structures, DSCTDA also stepped up routine sweeping and sanitation along major roads, focusing particularly on the Mammy Market/Traffic Light axis, to maintain cleanliness and prevent a resurgence of illegal activities.

The exercise was supervised by the Agency’s Head of Environment, Mr. Isaac Nwosu, who said monitoring teams have been deployed to ensure compliance and sustain the gains achieved. He called on residents, traders, and commuters to cooperate with the Agency by adhering to environmental laws and keeping their surroundings clean.

Ukah reaffirmed DSCTDA’s commitment to building a clean, safe, and orderly capital, stressing that a well-organized Asaba is vital to the image, growth, and development of Delta State.
