Ikorodu City surged to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table on matchday 25 with a convincing 2-0 home win over Niger Tornadoes, while defending champions Remo Stars suffered another setback, deepening their relegation worries.

At the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Sunday, Ikorodu City delivered a composed and dominant display, showcasing their growing credentials as title contenders this season.

Joseph Arumala was the hero for the Oga Boys, scoring both goals to lift them to 41 points. The victory puts Ikorodu level on points with Rivers United and Nasarawa United, but they lead the table on goal difference.

The hosts took control early, and their first breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when Chidera Oparaocha was fouled in the box. Arumala converted the penalty with ease, sending Ikorodu into halftime with a deserved lead.

Niger Tornadoes struggled to create chances in the second half as Ikorodu dominated possession. Arumala sealed the win in the 88th minute, turning away from his marker to drill a low shot into the corner for his second of the match.

The result strengthens Ikorodu’s push for continental qualification, though Rivers United still have four games in hand.

Meanwhile, Remo Stars’ struggles continued with a 1-0 defeat at Kano Pillars. Luis Dadong’s second-half strike proved decisive, giving the Sky Blue Stars their 15th loss of the campaign. Despite goalkeeper Obassa Adebiyi saving a first-half penalty from Rabiu Ali, Remo Stars remain 19th with 26 points, just above bottom-placed Kun Khalifat.

Elsewhere, Kun Khalifat boosted their survival chances with a 2-0 win over Shooting Stars, while Abia Warriors and Enugu Rangers played to a 0-0 draw. Plateau United claimed a late 1-0 win against Kwara United thanks to Sadiq Yusuf, and Nasarawa United drew 1-1 with Bayelsa United. Warri Wolves and El Kanemi Warriors were held to a goalless stalemate.
