The leadership adjustment, announced on Friday, was reportedly influenced by zoning considerations and the need to accommodate senior party figures. Party insiders disclosed that the move was part of efforts to maintain internal balance and respect long-standing leaders within the APC.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, Masari was named Chairman of the influential committee, while former Senate President, Pius Anyim, emerged as Vice Chairman I.

Uzodimma, who was initially appointed to head the 73-member committee, was reassigned as Treasurer. Sources within the party insisted the change was not a disciplinary action.

A senior member of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) explained that the restructuring was necessary to ensure fairness and acknowledge party elders who are not currently pursuing elective office.

According to the source, experienced leaders such as Masari and Anyim were considered better positioned to oversee the process impartially, given their status and political experience.

The official further clarified that Uzodimma’s reassignment had nothing to do with internal disagreements, stressing that he would continue to play a significant role, particularly in his capacity as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum.

Another high-ranking party figure revealed that regional balance also played a role in the decision, noting that with President Bola Tinubu from the South, it was deemed appropriate for a northern leader to chair the convention committee.

The source added that the reconstituted committee was designed to be inclusive, featuring governors, National Assembly principal officers, former party chairmen, and key cabinet members, including ministers overseeing Defence, Interior, Works, and other critical portfolios.

Preparations are said to be progressing steadily ahead of the APC National Convention scheduled for March 27 and 28, 2026. Party sources indicated that the emergence of a new National Working Committee (NWC) is expected to be largely consensus-driven.

Forms are already being purchased, and party officials are optimistic about a smooth and rancour-free convention.

When contacted for comment on Uzodimma’s replacement, APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, declined to offer any explanation, stating simply that he had nothing to say on the matter.
