Police Put On High Alert As PDP Crisis Escalates Over Secretariat Reopening.

Published

on

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed it will station officers to prevent potential unrest as tensions rise over the planned reopening of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat by the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led caretaker committee on Monday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The caretaker committee, reportedly supported by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, plans to reclaim the Wadata Plaza headquarters months after it was sealed following clashes between rival party factions.

Senior FCT police officials told Sunday Punch that while no formal briefing had been received, personnel would be deployed to the secretariat and other strategic locations to maintain law and order.

The Acting National Secretary of the Mohammed-led committee, Samuel Anyanwu, announced Thursday that the secretariat would resume official activities on Monday. He dismissed claims that ongoing court cases would impede the reopening, stating, “There are no legal barriers preventing the caretaker committee from resuming work at the party’s headquarters.”

Turaki-led NWC Rejects Reopening Move

The Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) has strongly rejected the plan, insisting that Anyanwu and his group, being expelled members, have no authority to act on behalf of the PDP.

National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong said, “They are living in fool’s paradise. Even INEC, which they claim has recognised them, has denied them. Any attempt to reopen the secretariat is a form of self-deceit.”

Ememobong added that letters had been sent to both the Inspector-General of Police and the FCT Commissioner of Police, warning against any “self-help” actions while the matter remains before the court of Justice Joyce Abdulmalik. He stated, “Reopening the secretariat now would amount to contempt of court.”

Police Ensure Law and Order

A senior FCT police officer, speaking anonymously, confirmed that officers would be on site to prevent a repeat of the November 19 violence that led to the initial sealing of the secretariat. “The command will not allow a breakdown of peace and order by the party or anyone else,” the officer said.

Another officer added, “There will definitely be men present at the secretariat, though I cannot specify the exact number of officers deployed.”

FCT Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh stated she had not been briefed on the reopening and declined to comment on deployment specifics. When asked if police had sealed the secretariat previously, she confirmed, “Yes,” but offered no further details on current security arrangements.
