NBA NEC Threatens Police Action Over Kwankwaso’s Judicial Interference Allegations

Published

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has resolved to formally petition the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies over public statements alleging interference with the judiciary, particularly remarks linked to former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The decision followed NEC deliberations prompted by widespread attention to Kwankwaso’s claims that he engaged with Supreme Court justices during proceedings related to the 2019 Kano governorship election.

NEC clarified that the petition targets the allegations themselves and does not imply guilt against any individual. The council said the action aims to ensure such serious claims undergo “thorough, impartial, and professional investigation.”

The NBA warned that statements of this nature, “whether direct or implied, can undermine public confidence in judicial independence and the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral justice system.”

The petition will not be limited to Kwankwaso’s statements but will also cover “any other person who has publicly suggested they influenced, attempted to influence, or had improper access to judicial officers or decisions.”

The council emphasized that false claims are harmful to constitutional democracy and must be strongly rejected, while true claims require accountability under the law.

NEC has tasked the NBA’s National Executive Committee with preparing and submitting the petition, calling for a comprehensive investigation into all allegations of judicial interference to safeguard judicial independence and restore public trust in the justice system.

The NBA reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, insisting that no individual—regardless of political status—should make claims that cast doubt on the courts’ integrity without facing proper legal scrutiny.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
