Kaiama Killings: AbdulRazaq Meets Tinubu At Presidential Villa.
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Thursday evening met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, following deadly attacks in Kaiama Local Government Area.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Our correspondent observed that the governor arrived at the Villa around 5 p.m.
The meeting comes days after suspected jihadist fighters killed at least 100 people across several communities in Kaiama LGA. On Tuesday evening, gunmen believed to be linked to Boko Haram stormed Worro and Nuku villages, killing residents and setting homes, shops, and the palace of the traditional ruler ablaze.
The Emir of Worro, Saliu Umar, was reported missing as of Thursday, while his two wives, several children, the community’s Chief Imam, a school principal, and some students were among those killed during the attacks.
Sources say the assault was allegedly carried out in retaliation after residents refused to attend extremist sermons and reject radical ideology. The Emir had reportedly alerted military authorities to the presence and activities of the terrorists beforehand.
In response, President Tinubu on Wednesday ordered the deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama and approved the creation of a new military command to lead Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at countering terrorist activity and protecting vulnerable communities in the region.
The President condemned the attacks as cowardly and inhumane, criticizing the targeting of residents for choosing peaceful Islamic practices over extremist teachings. He also called for stronger collaboration between federal and state authorities to support affected communities and bring the perpetrators to justice.
AbdulRazaq, who visited Kaiama on Wednesday night with service chiefs and members of the state cabinet, described the attacks as “a cowardly expression of frustration by terrorist cells in response to ongoing counterterrorism campaigns” in parts of the state.
