Politics Won’t Affect FCT Projects, Wike Assures Residents.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reassured Abuja residents that political activities, including the upcoming Area Council Elections scheduled for February 21, will not disrupt ongoing development projects across the capital.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Wike made the assurance on Wednesday while inspecting several infrastructure projects in the FCT, emphasizing that governance and service delivery will continue irrespective of political timelines.
“Politics is different. You have to serve the people. Politics has its own time, and the work will continue. Politics is not going to affect it,” he said, stressing that government’s foremost responsibility is the welfare of the people.
The minister noted that sustained project delivery is essential to demonstrating the sincerity of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “The only way for people to see that the Renewed Hope Agenda is real is to keep the work going,” he added.
During the inspection, Wike visited the Institutional Research Road, linking Nile University, the Body of Benchers, and other institutions. He described the road as a strategic traffic corridor and confirmed that the project is progressing well. “The work is very encouraging. By the end of May, the contractor will hand over the project, which is scheduled for inauguration during the President’s third year in office,” he said.
Wike also reviewed the Body of Benchers extension building, reporting that construction is about 80 percent complete, with only landscaping remaining.
Additionally, the minister inspected a major seven-kilometre road corridor from Euclid Road through Bright Road to Tungan Madaki, highlighting key infrastructure along the route, including a large conference hall and a four-span bridge. He described the project as transformational for communities that had long been neglected.
Wike revealed that the project scope was expanded following consultations with residents, who requested proper road access alongside compensation for crops affected by construction. “They asked that if we were paying compensation, they should also be connected to the city. That is what we are doing today — a promise made, a promise fulfilled,” he said.
Contractors have assured that major works will be completed between late May and early June, and Wike emphasized that routine inspections will continue to ensure quality and timely delivery.
Earlier on Tuesday, the minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of infrastructure projects across Abuja during an inspection tour that covered Gishiri village in Katampe District, the Outer Southern Expressway (Ring Road I) where bridge construction is ongoing, and the Apo-Wassa axis to assess roads for Apo traders.
