George Ilenikhena has made history in Nigerian football after completing a record-breaking transfer to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad, becoming the most expensive Nigerian teenager ever.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The 19-year-old winger joined Al-Ittihad from AS Monaco for a reported €30 million, surpassing Mikel Obi’s long-standing €20 million move from Lyn to Chelsea in the 2006/07 season. The deal also eclipses recent teenage transfers, including Honest Ahanor’s €17 million switch to Atalanta in 2025/26, according to Transfermarkt.

Monaco confirmed Ilenikhena’s departure on Tuesday, praising his impact since joining the club in summer 2024. In 51 appearances for the Red and White, he scored 10 goals and provided two assists. “The club thanks George for his commitment and wishes him every success in the next chapter of his career,” Monaco said.

Ilenikhena’s rise has been rapid. Before Monaco, he moved from Royal Antwerp for €18.75 million, already placing him among Nigeria’s most valuable teenage exports. He now joins a list of young Nigerian stars who secured major transfers before turning 20, including Ademola Lookman, Ahmed Musa, Suleman Sani, Uchenna Ogundu, and Akinkunmi Amoo. Notably, stars like Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho do not appear on the teenage rankings, having completed their significant transfers at age 20.

Born in Lagos, Ilenikhena moved to France at age three and began his football journey with Antony Football Evolution before joining Amiens ahead of the 2021/22 season. He made his senior debut in November 2022 in the Coupe de France, then joined Belgian champions Royal Antwerp in June 2023 before moving to Monaco a year later.

His international reputation is also growing. On January 21, 2026, he became the youngest African player to reach 15 UEFA Champions League appearances at 19 years and 157 days, surpassing Nwankwo Kanu’s record. He first announced himself on the European stage with a dramatic late winner against Barcelona in December 2023.

Beyond topping Nigeria’s teenage transfer chart, Ilenikhena now ranks fifth among the most expensive Nigerian players of all time, behind Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi.
