APC Zamfara Chieftain Calls For Defence Minister’s Removal Amid Party Crisis.
The ongoing crisis within the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has escalated, with a party stalwart calling for the removal of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, accusing him of deepening internal divisions.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The call was made on Tuesday by Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, a prominent APC chieftain and former National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), during a media briefing at the APC national headquarters in Abuja.
Shinkafi urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action to address the turmoil in Zamfara, particularly the fallout from a failed membership e-registration exercise that has intensified factionalism within the state party.
He accused Matawalle of worsening the crisis, arguing that the Defence Ministry is already well-handled by the main Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa.
“I have spent time with several print and electronic media outlets calling for the removal of the Minister of State for Defence. Christopher Musa has the experience, educational background, and qualifications to manage national defence and security. Removing Matawalle from the Federal Executive Council would help restore cohesion. He is the one fueling disunity, fragmentation, and sponsoring misconduct within the party,” Shinkafi said.
He stressed that President Tinubu must restore order in Zamfara to ensure the party remains united and wins elections.
Shinkafi attributed his visit to the national secretariat to challenges in the ongoing membership e-registration, highlighting threats and intimidation faced by his political movement, Wambai Shinkafi Democratic Front.
“All our members across Zamfara’s 14 local government areas and 147 electoral wards have not been registered, despite my public support for the President’s second term in 2027 and my own intention to run for governor the same year,” he said.
Shinkafi added that Matawalle, who was governor in 2021, hand-picked state, local government, and ward executives, contributing to the exclusion and ongoing tensions.
