LG Council Cancels Appointment Of Ex-Senate Chief Whip As Okumagbe Of Wanno Kingdom.

The Etsako East Local Government authorities in Edo State have nullified the selection of former senator Francis Alimikhena as the new Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Okumagbe is the title of the traditional ruler of the kingdom.

The Secretary to the Council, Edward Imhanobe, announced the nullification in a letter on behalf of the Local Government Chairman, Sunny Ekpeson.

The letter, titled “Re: Filling of the Vacant Stool of Okumagbe of Wanno Kingdom” and dated February 2, 2026, stated that the nullification followed the failure of the kingmakers to comply with the Council’s earlier directive suspending the filling of the stool pending further notice.

Imhanobe explained that in a January 30, 2026 letter (Ref. No. EELG 2706/12), the Council formally informed the Senior Ukpi Drummer (kingmakers) of the Agiode Ruling House of the postponement of the election, originally scheduled for January 31, 2026. The postponement was due to an originating summons from the Agenebode High Court (Ref. No. HAG/3/2026).

“Contrary to the directive, an election was allegedly conducted, and a purported winner announced,” Imhanobe said.

He emphasized that the Council aligns with the Edo State Government on the supremacy of due process and the rule of law, adding that it would neither condone nor recognize any action that violates court processes or established governance procedures.

“Accordingly, the Council cannot validate, recognize, or confirm any election not authorized, monitored, or supervised by it. We strictly direct the people of Wanno Clan and the general public to refrain from actions concerning the vacant Okumagbe stool and await the outcome of the pending suit and lawful directives of the government,” Imhanobe stated.

Despite the formal suspension, the kingmakers went ahead on January 31, 2026, and elected Alimikhena—who represented Edo North Senatorial District from 2015 to 2023—as the new traditional ruler.

The Etsako East Local Government had initially ordered the filling of the vacant stool on January 27, 2026, following the dethronement of the former Okumagbe, Dr. George Egabor, by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Dr. Egabor, now deceased, was dethroned on April 30, 2025, due to repeated security lapses in the kingdom, including kidnappings and killings.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He wrote, “Chiemeka Chibuzor’s wedding is hereby suspended. More than a thousand applications. No more wedding pending further directive from me.”

The cleric had earlier this week publicly invited proposals for her marriage, setting conditions that included the suitor being young and in good physical and mental health, alongside promised financial support and housing benefits.

He also said the couple would enjoy lifelong support, including shared property ownership and periodic welfare checks from church members.

The development follows a similar arrangement recently conducted by the church involving a non-verbal autistic man who was married in a ceremony organised by the ministry.
