Major General Adebayo Adegbite, Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST), made the call on Friday during the 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA) event held at the school in Benin City, Edo State.
Adegbite encouraged soldiers to draw inspiration from the bravery of those engaged in operations, while also taking time to celebrate and appreciate their sacrifices for the nation. He further called on personnel to pray for the souls of fallen heroes who gave their lives to ensure peace and unity in Nigeria.
He stated, “As we celebrate, I urge us not to forget our officers and soldiers serving in operational theatres. We collectively celebrate them and recognize their sacrifices. Their acts of gallantry continue to inspire us. We also pray for the repose of the souls of our fallen heroes who paid the supreme price for peace and unity in Nigeria. May their souls rest in peace, and may God grant their families the strength to bear the loss.”
The NASST Commandant also appealed to officers and men to prepare for the challenges ahead and ensure full implementation of the 2026 training activities. He highlighted that the WASA celebration is a long-standing tradition dating back to the colonial era, providing a social platform for officers and soldiers to unwind from routine regimental duties at year’s end.
He added that the event offers an opportunity for social interaction with family, friends, and well-wishers, while also showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Nigerian Army.
Congratulating the officers and men of NASST for a successful 2025, Adegbite urged them to build on their achievements in the coming year and continue demonstrating the professionalism they have displayed.
“WASA also allows us to celebrate our cultural diversity, which is the foundation of our unity. This event is a testament to barracks serving as a melting pot of different cultures and social backgrounds,” he concluded.
