A mysterious overnight assault shook Air Base 101 in Niamey, the capital of Niger, sparking fears of an internal mutiny within the military and raising fresh concerns over the stability of Gen. Abdourahamane Tchiani’s junta.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that multiple explosions rang out around midnight on Wednesday at the strategic base near Diori Hamani International Airport.

The attack reportedly damaged or disabled several military aerial assets, including drones and fixed-wing aircraft, and severely disrupted operations at the base’s Unified Force Command Centre. Four civilian planes, including one belonging to ASKY Airlines, were also affected, though no passengers were aboard at the time.

Sources added that two trucks carrying uranium within the base perimeter were hit, but the cargo remained intact, averting a potential environmental and security catastrophe.

Casualties were confirmed, with ambulances seen shuttling in and out of the base overnight. Some attackers were reportedly killed, while others were arrested by Niger’s intelligence services. The perpetrators’ identities remain unknown.

Though initial speculation suggested possible jihadist involvement, no group has claimed responsibility. Security analysts, however, noted that the operation’s nature pointed to insider involvement, suggesting the strike may have been an internal mutiny rather than an external attack.

“The pattern of the assault and access to sensitive areas strongly indicate insider participation,” a regional security analyst said.

The incident has fueled concerns that Gen. Tchiani may be losing grip over key military institutions, with serious implications for Niger’s internal stability. Analysts warn that any breakdown in command could worsen insecurity across the Sahel, including in Nigeria, which continues to battle terrorism and banditry.

As of this report, Nigerien authorities have not released an official statement regarding the attack.

Kwara PDP Protests As Govt Moves To Reopen Robbery Case Against Saraki, Others.

Published

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has strongly opposed reported moves by the state government to revisit the alleged Offa robbery case involving former Governor Abubakar Bukola Saraki and others.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the party made its position known during an emergency press conference in Ilorin on Friday, describing the development as politically motivated and unjust.

PDP spokesman, Comrade Olushola Adewara, said the alleged plan to reopen the case amounts to an attempt to politicise a matter that has already been concluded by the courts.

He alleged that the move was targeted at dragging Saraki into a case in which, according to him, legal authorities had previously found no evidence linking him to the incident.

Adewara referenced earlier legal opinions from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, which reportedly stated that Saraki was not connected to the robbery case.

The party insisted that suspects in the case had already been prosecuted and convicted, with judgments upheld at appellate levels, while the matter is currently before the Supreme Court.

PDP urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to focus on governance rather than what it described as attempts to revive old political narratives.

It also called on security agencies to monitor the situation closely, warning that such actions could heighten political tension in the state.

The party further appealed to residents, especially families of victims in Offa, not to allow their pain to be used for political purposes.
