Osun APC: LGs Must Get Statutory Allocations, Slams Gov Adeleke’s Broadcast.
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of misrepresenting facts on local government administration and federal allocations in the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
APC State Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, made the allegations on Wednesday at the party secretariat in Osogbo, claiming the governor’s recent broadcast distorted the legal status of council officials.
Lawal said Governor Adeleke wrongly labelled APC chairmen and councillors as “illegal occupants” of council secretariats, stressing that their reinstatement followed valid court rulings. “The officials resumed duties based on subsisting judicial pronouncements, including a February 10, 2025 Court of Appeal judgment nullifying their earlier removal,” he explained.
On the issue of tenure, Lawal clarified that court cases raised by the state government were about interpretation of tenure provisions, not extending officials’ terms.
Regarding local government allocations, the APC chairman dismissed claims that the Federal Government was withholding funds, attributing delays to ongoing litigations initiated by the state government and its allies. “Multiple court actions, including suits involving commercial banks, are blocking the release of funds. Federal interference is not to blame,” he said.
Lawal cited a Supreme Court ruling affirming council autonomy, noting that local governments are independent entities capable of managing their funds without state interference. He warned that attempts to control council finances contradict the apex court’s decision.
The APC also criticised attacks on former governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, stating that current challenges are the responsibility of the Adeleke administration. Lawal called on the governor to withdraw pending lawsuits and allow allocations to reach grassroots councils.
The controversy comes after Governor Adeleke, in a statewide broadcast on Monday, demanded the immediate release of over ₦130 billion in statutory allocations allegedly withheld from Osun councils. He accused APC officials occupying council secretariats of having no mandate and called for their immediate removal, also alleging former Governor Oyetola’s involvement.
In the meantime, a feud erupted within the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Osun, as rival chairmen issued conflicting statements on council control, tenure, and funding. PDP-elected ALGON chairman Sarafadeen Abiodun Awotunde accused APC faction leader Samuel Idowu Abiodun of providing a misleading account of events, while the APC faction blamed the state government’s litigations for delays in council projects.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
