The Rivers State Government has refuted claims by the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) that Governor Siminalayi Fubara ordered the removal of President Bola Tinubu’s official portrait from the Government House.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement on Tuesday, Dr. Honour Sirawoo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications, described the allegations as baseless, misleading, and inflammatory.

“The government has no policy, directive, or intention that disrespects President Tinubu or the authority of the Federal Government,” Sirawoo said.

He emphasized that Governor Fubara maintains a strong working relationship with the Federal Government, particularly with President Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda, which has already yielded tangible benefits for Rivers residents.

“As a matter of fact, the State Government and Governor Siminalayi Fubara currently enjoy a robust and collaborative relationship with the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement read.

The Permanent Secretary also dismissed suggestions that the alleged action reflected ingratitude or disrespect, calling such claims unfounded and irresponsible.

“The insinuation that the governor acted out of ingratitude or disrespect is misleading, irresponsible, and unsupported by facts. It should be disregarded,” Sirawoo stressed.

He expressed disappointment at the NYCN’s approach, accusing the council of abandoning its unifying role by making personal attacks and spreading inflammatory rhetoric at a time the state needs calm and responsible engagement.

“The Rivers State Government calls on well-meaning members of the public, especially our youths, to disregard and distance themselves from those promoting divisive narratives and falsehoods for political gain,” Sirawoo said.

He added, “Rivers State belongs to all of us. Political differences must never overshadow truth, civility, and the collective goal of peace and progress. Residents should remain cautious of inflammatory statements and not fall prey to those attempting to sow division.”

El-Rufai Breaks Silence, Demands Fair Trial After 256 Days In Detention.

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has renewed his demand for a fair trial as his detention over allegations of financial misconduct and unlawful telephone interception enters its 256th day.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

El-Rufai made the call in a statement published on his official X account on Friday, October 30, insisting that the right to a fair trial is a fundamental human right and not a privilege or favour.

The statement read: “El-Rufai Detention Update. Today, exactly 256 days @elrufai in Detention. A Human Right, Not a Favour. A fair trial is not an act of mercy. It is not a privilege. It is a fundamental human right.”

The former governor has remained in custody since February 16, 2026, when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested him over allegations of financial mismanagement during his administration from 2015 to 2023.

The allegations followed a report by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which raised concerns over the handling of between ₦423 billion and ₦432 billion during his eight-year tenure.

He was later transferred to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) as investigations and legal proceedings into the allegations continued.

In a separate case, the Department of State Services (DSS) is prosecuting El-Rufai over allegations that he unlawfully intercepted telephone communications belonging to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

The case reportedly arose from comments he made during a television interview. El-Rufai has, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Although courts have granted him bail in some of the cases, the stringent conditions attached to the decisions have reportedly stalled his release.

The former governor was briefly released in March on compassionate grounds to attend his mother’s burial but returned to detention afterwards.

Meanwhile, in the alleged telephone interception case, a Federal High Court in Abuja recently dismissed his no-case submission and directed him to open his defence.

2027 Election: Only APC Is Campaigning, Other Parties Are Busy On Social Media – Umar Ardo.

Published

on

The Convener of the Northern League of Democrats, Umar Ardo, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the only political party actively campaigning ahead of the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He accused opposition parties of neglecting grassroots mobilisation and concentrating their activities on social media.

Ardo made the remarks on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he discussed the state of political campaigns ahead of the next general election.

According to him, a drive through Abuja and other parts of the country would reveal that the APC is the only party visibly engaging in campaign activities.

He argued that opposition politicians were largely confined to social media, where they spend more time reacting to developments than taking the initiative and defining the direction of the election.

“There is a one-sided political campaign. If you drive around Abuja and other states, it is only APC you will see. Other political contenders, you will see them on social media almost always reacting rather than acting and defining the election,” Ardo said.

He added that the situation creates the impression that the political campaigns are not being conducted on an equal footing.

Ardo urged opposition parties to move beyond online engagements, take their campaigns to the streets and present their own agendas to Nigerians instead of constantly responding to the APC.

Meanwhile, Ardo has also expressed doubts about the possibility of a presidential coalition between the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) counterpart, Peter Obi.

Speaking during the same Arise Television interview, he argued that Atiku was unlikely to withdraw from the presidential race, despite the possibility of retaining his support base if he decided to step aside.

He, however, said Obi could be more willing to withdraw but might struggle to convince his supporters to accept such a decision.

According to Ardo, the differing positions of the two politicians and the reactions of their respective supporters are major obstacles to achieving a strong opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 election.

“My view is that Atiku does not have the propensity by himself to say, ‘I will step down.’ If he says so, he will not have a problem with his support base. But the issue is that he is highly unlikely to say that.

“Then Peter Obi has the propensity to say, ‘I will step down.’ But if he says so, he will not have his support base. He will not be able to carry his support base. His support base will not go with him. So, now, these are the two problems,” he said.

Ardo maintained that unless the two challenges were resolved, a merger between the politicians would remain difficult.

He, however, argued that even without a formal alliance, either Atiku or Obi could independently challenge the incumbent, depending on how effectively they organise and strategise their campaigns.

He said both politicians had the capacity to upset the existing political order and defeat the incumbent in the 2027 presidential election if they pursued the right strategies.
