“Ohanaeze Youth Urges Market Leaders To Ignore Sit-At-Home Orders”.
The Youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called on market leaders in Onitsha, Nnewi, and Awka to work with Governor Chukwuma Soludo to ensure that all markets remain open on Mondays.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Reacting to the recent closure of Onitsha Main Market by Governor Soludo, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), stressed the importance of protecting traders from intimidation by gangs posing as enforcers of the sit-at-home order, which has been suspended by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Igboayaka urged market leaders, especially in Onitsha, to stop locking market entrances on Mondays, describing such actions as politically motivated.
“Those enforcing the sit-at-home are enemies of Ndigbo, aiming to shut down the primary means of survival for our people—commerce and trading,” he said.
He highlighted the resilience and entrepreneurship of the Igbo people, noting that they have rebuilt their businesses through self-reliance and ingenuity since the 1967–1970 genocide, starting with as little as £20 despite massive asset confiscation.
“The Igbo have proven themselves as industrious business leaders and entrepreneurs, turning small beginnings into thriving enterprises despite historical setbacks,” Igboayaka said.
The OYC lauded Governor Soludo’s efforts to permanently end Monday sit-at-home orders, calling it a bold step toward economic liberation in Anambra State.
“This initiative is one every progressive Igbo person and supporter of Igbo political and economic freedom should back. We urge IPOB and the DSS to collaborate with Governor Soludo to ensure the cessation of the Monday sit-at-home, which costs Ndigbo an estimated ₦6 billion weekly and tarnishes the reputation of IPOB,” he added.
Igboayaka concluded by stating that while some may have grievances with Soludo, anyone opposing the end of Monday market closures is acting against Biafran restoration and the economic interests of Ndigbo.
