Nigeria’s Gas Production Jumps By 8% – Report.

Published

on

Nigeria’s gas output climbed by almost eight per cent in 2025, reaching 2.706 trillion standard cubic feet, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has disclosed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The commission said the rise, estimated at about 198 billion standard cubic feet, marked a clear improvement over the 2.508 trillion scf produced in 2024, as detailed in its 2025 Gas Production Status Reports.

The report also showed that gas flaring increased alongside production, rising from 192.9 billion scf in 2024 to 204.0 billion scf in 2025 — an 11.1 billion scf or 5.8 per cent increase. NUPRC described this trend as evidence of steady growth in upstream gas supply, despite persistent challenges in full gas monetisation.

A comparison of data from 2024 and 2025 highlighted a shift in Nigeria’s gas production mix.

In 2024, associated gas accounted for 1.441 trillion scf, representing 57.4 per cent of total output, while non-associated gas stood at 1.068 trillion scf, or 42.6 per cent. By 2025, associated gas edged up slightly to 1.456 trillion scf, while non-associated gas rose sharply to 1.250 trillion scf.

This reflected a modest 1.1 per cent growth (15.3 billion scf) in associated gas production, compared with a much stronger 17.1 per cent increase (182.4 billion scf) in non-associated gas output.

As a result, non-associated gas contributed about 46.2 per cent of total production in 2025, up from 42.6 per cent the previous year, pointing to a gradual shift toward gas fields not directly linked to crude oil output.

The report further indicated that gas utilisation kept pace with rising production levels.

Total gas utilised increased from 2.313 trillion scf in 2024 to 2.500 trillion scf in 2025 — an additional 186.9 billion scf or 8.1 per cent.

Utilised gas accounted for roughly 92.2 per cent of total output in 2024, inching up to 92.4 per cent in 2025, driven mainly by domestic use, exports and other productive applications.

However, despite the improved utilisation ratio, flaring volumes still rose in absolute terms. The NUPRC noted that gas flaring grew by nearly six per cent, underscoring ongoing difficulties in fully monetising incremental gas supply even as efficiency metrics improve.

According to the commission, close to 90 per cent of the increase in gas production between 2024 and 2025 was driven by non-associated gas. Of the additional 197.7 billion scf produced in 2025, about 186.9 billion scf was absorbed through utilisation, leaving a narrow surplus that contributed to higher flaring.

Meanwhile, gas shrinkage — losses during processing and transportation — declined from 2.464 billion scf in 2024 to 2.121 billion scf in 2025, representing a reduction of about 14 per cent.

This, the report said, confirmed that processing and transport losses remain minimal within Nigeria’s overall gas balance.

The data comes amid the Federal Government’s drive to boost gas production to 12 billion cubic feet per day by 2030.

Naija News recalls that in November last year, the government reaffirmed that Nigeria’s Decade of Gas initiative (2021–2030) had already unlocked about 215 upstream and midstream gas projects worth over $8 billion within 18 months, with an additional $20 billion in investments expected in the years ahead.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taraba State chapter, has advocated for deepened cooperation between the church, the government, and traditional institutions to advance peace, unity, and sustainable development across the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This call was issued through a 10-point communiqué following a three-day Ministers of the Gospel Conference held at the CAN Secretariat along FGGC Road in Jalingo. The gathering, themed “The Roles of the Church and the State in Advancing God’s Purpose in a Changing World,” brought together diverse leaders, including bishops, pastors, traditional rulers, politicians, and delegates from across the state’s 16 local government areas and two development areas.

Key Highlights from the Communiqué

  • Complementary Roles: Signed by Taraba CAN Chairman Rev. Fr. Williams P. Awoshiri and Conference Working Committee Chairman Bishop (Dr.) Innocent R. Solomon, the document emphasizes that the church and government hold distinct yet mutually supportive responsibilities in nation-building, with the church focusing on moral guidance and human dignity, and the government handling security and infrastructure.

  • Leadership and Governance: Christian political officeholders were urged to treat their positions as avenues for service rather than personal gain, mirroring biblical figures of integrity. Meanwhile, churches were encouraged to provide moral leadership without getting entangled in partisan politics.

  • Church-State Relations & Traditional Institutions: CAN stressed the importance of mutual respect, constitutional independence, and constructive collaboration, suggesting that churches expand their support in areas like education and healthcare while retaining the right to speak truth to power. The association also called for traditional rulers to be actively involved in grassroots policymaking.

  • Unity and Conflict Resolution: Acknowledging Taraba’s multi-ethnic landscape, CAN urged church leaders to bridge denominational divides and take active roles in early-intervention peacebuilding and traditional dispute resolution to forestall communal conflicts.
