“Anambra: Moghalu Officially Quits Labour Party”.

George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the 2025 Anambra State election, has formally resigned from the party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The announcement was made on Monday through a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Johnson Okoye, titled “Moghalu Resigns Membership of Labour Party.”

According to the statement, Moghalu submitted a signed resignation letter dated January 26, 2026, to the Labour Party chairman of his ward in Uruagu, Nnewi, Anambra State. He did not provide a reason for leaving the party.

In his letter, the former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority expressed gratitude to the Labour Party at the ward, state, and national levels for giving him the platform to contest the November 2025 off-cycle governorship election.

The letter, effective immediately, conveyed his appreciation in a courteous tone, acknowledging the support and cooperation he received from party leaders and members during the campaign.

He wrote in part: “I bring you the good wishes of my family and write to formally inform you of my resignation from the Labour Party, effective January 26, 2026. Let me also thank the party, through you, for providing me the opportunity to use the Labour Party platform to contest the last governorship election of our state.”

Moghalu added: “Please accept, as always, the assurance of my sincere regards and kindly convey same to the members.”

As of now, Moghalu has not revealed his next political step or whether he plans to join another party.

He added that the project is not only focused on land recovery but also on boosting agricultural output and improving livelihoods in affected communities.

According to him, the effort is already helping to reduce dependence on firewood while creating alternative sources of income for beneficiaries.

He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.
