Kano Govt Fires Back At Galadima Over Kwankwaso Comment.
The Kano State Government has dismissed comments by elder statesman Buba Galadima suggesting that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf would be unable to secure re-election in 2027 without the support of former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the claim as misleading, stressing that political success in Kano is driven by popular support rather than godfather politics.

While acknowledging Kwankwaso’s stature as a prominent political figure, Waiya rejected the idea that the political future of Kano is dependent on any single individual.
“There is no doubt that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso remains a major political force,” he said. “However, portraying Kano’s political destiny as permanently tied to one person is a clear misreading of history and the democratic choices of the people.”

The commissioner maintained that Governor Yusuf’s mandate was freely given by the electorate and upheld through lawful and institutional processes, not through political patronage.
“Governor Yusuf emerged through the will of the people, not political charity. Since assuming office, his administration has prioritised education, institutional reforms and social justice,” Waiya stated.

Referencing Kano’s electoral history, he cited the emergence of Ibrahim Shekarau in 2003 and Kwankwaso’s political resurgence in 2011 as evidence that voters in the state are independent-minded and reward performance over political loyalty.
Waiya expressed surprise that such remarks came from Galadima, who was appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of Kano State Polytechnic by Governor Yusuf despite not being an indigene of the state.
“That appointment was extended in good faith, but it recorded little or no tangible impact during his tenure,” he added.

The commissioner also defended Governor Yusuf’s recent exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), attributing the decision to internal disputes and prolonged legal challenges.
According to him, “The decision to leave the NNPP was made in good faith and in the interest of peace, unity and the overall development of Kano State.”
Waiya further emphasised that political mentorship does not translate into permanent political dependence, noting that Kano’s leadership tradition is rooted in performance and service delivery.
Adopting a reflective tone, he concluded, “In Kano politics, as in life, destiny is determined by Allah. That enduring principle continues to shape our political journey.”
