The All Progressives Congress (APC) says Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s defection to the party has strengthened its base and boosted support among residents across Rivers State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The development coincides with the party’s successful conclusion of delegate congresses and primary elections in Ahoada East State Constituency II and Khana State Constituency II, ahead of the February 21 House of Assembly bye-elections.

At a joint press briefing on Sunday, APC National Working Committee (NWC) officials described the exercises as peaceful and reflective of renewed public confidence in the party.

Shehu Dange, Chairman of the Congress and Primary Committee for Ahoada East, hailed Fubara’s defection as a unifying force, saying, “Governor Fubara’s leadership has brought the APC family together. The party is now stronger in Rivers State because it has a leader with focus and direction.”

Dange noted that residents’ reactions during the delegate congress showed excitement over the political realignment.

Barrister Smart Iheanazor, Secretary of the Delegate Congress and Party Primary Committee in Ahoada East, added that participation levels reflected growing trust in the governor’s leadership. “While chanting ‘Renewed Hope’ for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election, attendees showed their commitment. The turnout across Ahoada was massive,” he said.

Similarly, Ayoala Peter, chair of the delegate congress in Khana State Constituency II, said party members’ enthusiasm highlighted APC’s increasing popularity in the area. “Despite the distance between wards, members waited eagerly and were happy to participate,” he said.

Earlier, APC ward congresses were conducted to elect delegates for the primaries. In Ahoada East, the process was supervised by Dange, with Iheanazor as secretary, and monitored by INEC, the DSS, and the Nigeria Police Force. Delegates were chosen through a voice vote, with five delegates emerging from each ward.

In Khana, Ayoala Peter oversaw the delegate election using an open ballot system, with INEC officials and security personnel present.

The delegates elected in both constituencies will vote in the upcoming APC primaries to select flagbearers for the February 21 bye-elections. The Ahoada East seat became vacant after Edison Ehie resigned to serve as Fubara’s Chief of Staff, while the Khana seat has been vacant since Dinebari Loolo’s death in September 2023.
