Shettima Warns: Ticket Without Hausa, Fulani Or Kanuri Muslim Faces Hurdle.

Published

The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has cautioned that any move by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to tamper with its Muslim–Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election could significantly weaken the party’s prospects, especially in Northern Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Musawa made the statement during an interview on the Mic On Show hosted by journalist Seun Okinbaloye, amid growing speculation that the APC may review the religious and regional composition of its presidential ticket.

She warned that dropping Vice President Kashim Shettima or selecting a running mate who is not a Northern Muslim could alienate the party’s traditional support base in the North.

“If there is no Hausa, Fulani or Kanuri Muslim on that ticket, it creates a hurdle. That is the reality of how people think,” Musawa said.

According to her, politics in Northern Nigeria is deeply entrenched and highly strategic, with voter loyalty and participation largely shaped by how well political parties understand and respect local dynamics.

“The core Northern states such as Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Kebbi, Jigawa, Zamfara and Sokoto understand politics at a very deep level. Politics is a way of life there. Every four years, people line up to vote because that is where they feel their influence lies,” she explained.

Musawa described suggestions that the APC could restructure its ticket without repercussions as misguided.

“If we toy with changing the current structure, it becomes a problem. Those who think otherwise may not fully grasp how politics works in the North,” she warned.

Addressing the issue of emerging opposition alliances ahead of 2027, Musawa downplayed the likelihood of a united opposition successfully challenging President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Shettima.

She said, “The opposition is overcrowded. Everyone is competing for the same position, and that alone is a formula for political failure.”

While acknowledging that opposition figures remain vocal and active, she argued that their lack of cohesion weakens their overall strength.

“We are not underestimating anyone. However, looking at the way the opposition is shaping up, I do not see how they can unseat President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima,” Musawa said.

She added that the APC remains committed to strengthening its base, while maintaining that a strong opposition is beneficial for democratic growth.

“It is healthy for democracy to have opposition. No one wants a one-party system. But we are confident in the direction we are heading,” she stated.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.
