“Ohanaeze Calls On Igbo Leaders In Exile To Return Home”.

Published

on

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on over 250 prominent Igbo leaders living in exile worldwide to return home in 2026.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued Sunday by the factional Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and National Spokesperson, Chief Chinyereze Ohia, the group emphasized that the return of these leaders would strengthen ongoing efforts to rebuild the Igbo nation.

Ohanaeze noted that the prolonged absence of respected leaders from their homeland has weakened societal values, cultural practices, and the Igbo language. This vacuum, they said, has worsened insecurity in the South-East, discouraged investment from Igbo elites, and hindered mentorship and succession planning for emerging leaders.

The statement reflected on historical Igbo figures such as Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, and Dr. Michael Okpara, who devoted their lives to the development of their communities and spent their final days in their homeland. Ohanaeze contrasted this with leaders from other regions, like former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Pa Olu Falae, and Prof. Wole Soyinka, who returned home after retirement and actively contributed to regional growth.

Ohanaeze stressed that the ongoing exile of Igbo leaders has undermined initiatives such as the “Aku ruo ulo” campaign, which encourages Igbo businesspeople to invest in the South-East. The absence of guidance has also left youth vulnerable to unrest, a situation worsened by the federal government’s decision to remove history from the school curriculum.

The organization specifically appealed to leaders including Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Vice Admiral Ebitu Ukiwe, Admiral Allison Madueke, and General Ike Nwachukwu, along with over 120 other influential figures in Nigeria and 130 in the diaspora, to return and actively contribute to the region’s reconstruction.

Ohanaeze clarified that the call is not a criticism but a respectful appeal for their wisdom, presence, and guidance. The statement concluded that the return of these leaders would help revive the South-East’s economy, inspire youth participation, and restore political and social leadership.

The National Coordinator and Executive Director of the Made in Nigeria Special Project Office, George Nwabueze, has firmly refuted allegations that he is directing an unauthorized or non-existent government entity.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In response to reports that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission linked his operations to an investigation ordered by the Presidency, Nwabueze maintained that the office operates legitimately under the supervision of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. He expressed surprise at the claims, noting that the initiative has functioned as a recognized project office within the government structure for over a decade.

To substantiate his position, Nwabueze shared official documentation via professional networks, pointing to an appointment letter dated October 3, 2025. This document, purportedly issued and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Political and Economic Affairs Office within the OSGF, formally conveyed his appointment for a five-year tenure beginning in July 2025. The papers outlined responsibilities centered on coordinating state and regional representatives, organizing economic summits, and promoting locally manufactured goods under national economic development frameworks.

Additional records presented by the coordinator included proposals submitted to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation seeking formal special-project status to expand the initiative’s scope. These documents highlighted the office’s historical role in fostering domestic industries, encouraging non-oil sector growth, attracting foreign investments, and supporting broader national trade and manufacturing objectives.

NO SURRENDER: Inside The High-Stakes Power Clash As Atiku & Obi Refuse To Step Down For A Consensus Plan!.

The camps of the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar and the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, have kicked against a proposal by the G-100 political pressure group for opposition parties to rally behind a single presidential candidate in the 2027 election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

However, Sunday Punch gathered that although the Atiku and Obi camps support greater collaboration among opposition forces, neither side is currently prepared to withdraw its presidential ambition for a consensus arrangement.

Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, told Sunday Punch on Saturday that the former vice-president was no longer interested in prolonged discussions about bringing opposition politicians together for a summit.

According to him, Atiku had already presented his policy proposals to Nigerians and would allow the electorate to decide who should lead the country in 2027.

Shaibu said, “We have moved beyond this conversation. Atiku has brought to the table the policy alternatives, including what he would do with petroleum subsidy if elected. His policies are about the people, and they are not hidden. Come January 2027, Nigerians will make their choice. This is where we are today.”

He urged voters to compare the programmes of the various presidential contenders before deciding.

Shaibu further argued that Atiku remained the opposition politician with the experience and preparedness required to take over the leadership of the country.

Obi’s Camp Speaks On Single Opposition Candidate

Obi’s camp has also maintained that the former Anambra governor has the political credentials and nationwide support needed to mount a serious challenge against Tinubu.

Obi contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party (LP) before moving to the NDC as opposition parties began exploring ways of working together ahead of 2027.

Although the NDC welcomed the G-100’s efforts to foster cooperation, its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the party did not subscribe to the idea that all opposition parties must adopt one presidential candidate before they could defeat the APC.

Director cited the 2015 election, when the APC defeated then-President Goodluck Jonathan, as evidence that an incumbent could be defeated in a multi-party system without every opposition party collapsing into one platform.

He said, “Under a multi-party democracy, it is possible for one of the parties to defeat a sitting president. It happened in 2015, and it was only fragments of the All Progressive Grand Alliance and the Peoples Democratic Party that teamed up to form an alliance with the All Progressives Congress, and they were able to defeat President Goodluck Jonathan.”

He added that the NDC would not approach the 2027 contest from the assumption that opposition parties must all merge before they could defeat the APC.

Director stated, “So, the NDC is not going into the 2027 election with that self-defeatist approach that the opposition cannot defeat the APC unless all the parties come together.”

Despite rejecting the argument that a single candidate was the only route to victory, the NDC spokesman disclosed that the party already had a preferred candidate if opposition parties eventually agreed to a consensus presidential ticket.

Director said the party believed Obi was the strongest option to lead such an arrangement.

He further stated, “We have made the point clear that we should choose the best candidate in the opposition and we in the NDC believe that Peter Obi is the best if he is allowed to lead the coalition. This is our position.”

The G-100, convened by former Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum, Salihu Lukman, has argued that opposition parties stand a better chance of defeating the APC if they avoid dividing their supporters among several presidential candidates.
