The monarch, who also served as the Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, passed away on January 12 at the age of 89.
During a condolence visit to the palace on Saturday, Adediran, Visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, lauded the late Akran as a symbol of peace and development in Badagry Division.
“The death of the Akran marks the celebration of a life dedicated to humanity. He was more than a king—he was a father to all. We cannot write the history of Lagos State without mentioning De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, who recorded many firsts and stood at the forefront of peace and development,” Adediran said.
He emphasized that the monarch’s contributions to Badagry and Lagos State are immense and will not be forgotten. Adediran also recalled receiving royal blessings from the Akran during the lead-up to the 2023 governorship election, noting that the late ruler’s influence remains unforgettable.
The former PDP candidate praised both federal and state government initiatives in Badagry, calling for more interventions to develop the ancient town as a major tourism hub. He specifically commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for approving the construction of a modern palace for the Akran and for supporting road projects, describing these efforts as capable of transforming Badagry into “a mecca of sorts.”
Responding on behalf of the palace, Chief Antony Tose acknowledged Adediran’s visit and reiterated the late monarch’s significant contributions to the division and the state. Tose also expressed support for Adediran’s governorship ambitions, suggesting it was time for Badagry to produce a state governor.
Similarly, Prince Adetunji Akran, the Olori-Ebi of the Akran family, expressed gratitude for the condolence visit.
