Kwankwasiyya Groups Set Conditions To Back Gov Yusuf After Dumping NNPP.

Published

Some Kwankwasiyya youth groups in Kano State have signalled their willingness to politically align with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf following his exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

However, the youths said their support would be conditional on the governor’s readiness to tackle what they described as marginalisation and the exclusion of young people from governance.

Governor Yusuf formally resigned from the NNPP on Friday, attributing his decision to escalating internal crises and unresolved leadership disputes within the party.

In his resignation letter addressed to the NNPP chairman of Diso-Chiranchi Ward in Gwale Local Government Area, the governor said the party had been weakened by persistent internal disagreements and ongoing legal battles.

According to him, the disputes had resulted in the disenfranchisement of members, deepened divisions and eroded internal unity. The resignation took effect from January 25, 2026.

Speaking at a youth engagement forum in Kano on Saturday, representatives of the Kwankwasiyya youth groups said they were not opposed to Yusuf as an individual but were unhappy with what they termed their exclusion from governance since he assumed office.

Kwankwasiyya is the political movement associated with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the NNPP.

Aminu Abdullahi, popularly known as Alhaji Warkal, who spoke on behalf of the groups, said the youths were prepared to work with the governor if their concerns were genuinely addressed.

“We are not saying we will never move with him. We are ready to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf if the government truly carries the youths along and gives them a sense of belonging,” Abdullahi said.

He noted that many young people who contributed significantly to the success of the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP during the 2023 elections felt sidelined after victory was secured.

“These youths invested their time, energy and resources to bring the government to power, but afterwards, they were excluded from programmes, consultations and opportunities that directly affect them,” he said.

Abdullahi added that the lack of youth inclusion had bred frustration among supporters of the movement across the state, stressing that meaningful youth engagement is essential for social stability.

“You cannot expect young people to follow blindly when they are not part of governance. Youth inclusion is key to reducing crime and social tension,” he said.

He dismissed claims that the youths were being pressured or induced by political actors, insisting that their position was driven by genuine interests and expectations.

“This is not about hijacking anyone. Politics is about interest. If the government listens to the youths and supports them, the youths will support the government in return,” Abdullahi added.

He concluded that consultations with various youth groups revealed a general openness to aligning with the governor, provided their demands for inclusion in governance are met.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has strongly opposed reported moves by the state government to revisit the alleged Offa robbery case involving former Governor Abubakar Bukola Saraki and others.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the party made its position known during an emergency press conference in Ilorin on Friday, describing the development as politically motivated and unjust.

PDP spokesman, Comrade Olushola Adewara, said the alleged plan to reopen the case amounts to an attempt to politicise a matter that has already been concluded by the courts.

He alleged that the move was targeted at dragging Saraki into a case in which, according to him, legal authorities had previously found no evidence linking him to the incident.

Adewara referenced earlier legal opinions from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, which reportedly stated that Saraki was not connected to the robbery case.

The party insisted that suspects in the case had already been prosecuted and convicted, with judgments upheld at appellate levels, while the matter is currently before the Supreme Court.

PDP urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to focus on governance rather than what it described as attempts to revive old political narratives.

It also called on security agencies to monitor the situation closely, warning that such actions could heighten political tension in the state.

The party further appealed to residents, especially families of victims in Offa, not to allow their pain to be used for political purposes.

reports that Showunmi made the announcement during a courtesy visit to the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) secretariat in Abeokuta on Friday.

He said: “I will be running for governor in the 2027 governorship election. I have come to plead with you to set up a small committee… to determine how we can collaborate to make this happen.”

He also questioned whether Ogun State would experience a “coronation” or a competitive election process, urging stakeholders to allow open political contest.

The PDP chieftain noted that Ogun West’s long-standing exclusion from producing a governor is a legitimate grievance, but stressed that aspirations must still be tested through competition.
