APC Speaks On Automatic Ticket For Yusuf After Defection.
The Kano State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Abbas, has said the party remains open to welcoming Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), amid speculation about a possible defection.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Abbas emphasized that the APC would not turn away any politician willing to join, noting that politics thrives on numbers and inclusion.
“He is welcome to our party because no right-thinking politician would reject a political addition. Politics is, after all, a game of numbers,” Abbas told Daily Trust.
He added that welcoming Yusuf and his allies would strengthen the APC’s electoral base ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Defection to our party increases our numbers, and by extension, boosts our chances of success at the polls,” he said.
Abbas reiterated the party’s long-standing stance that anyone wishing to join is welcome.
“We have consistently stated that we will embrace anyone who sees the value of our party and wants to be part of it,” he said.
No Automatic Ticket Talks Yet
Addressing concerns that Yusuf may expect an automatic ticket in return for his defection, Abbas said such discussions are premature.
“That is not a concern at this stage. These matters will be addressed once all processes are completed and the defection is finalized,” he explained.
Abbas also noted that Yusuf is expected to bring along a wave of defectors, including elected local government chairmen, councillors, and other officeholders.
“There are elected local government chairmen, councillors, and other political officeholders who are likely to defect with him,” he confirmed.
He assured party members that a strategy would be put in place to integrate old and new members smoothly.
“We will map out a plan that benefits everyone. There will be no conflict between existing members and new entrants,” Abbas said.
With the 2027 general elections in mind, Abbas stated that the APC’s priority is building a unified front capable of winning.
“We look forward to his arrival, and we will develop a strategy to ensure the party’s success in a cohesive manner,” he added.
Responding to speculation about delays in Yusuf’s defection, Abbas explained that such moves require careful planning and adherence to proper processes.
“A governor’s defection is not a decision one can make overnight. There are formalities involved, and until these are completed, the defection remains a plan,” he said.
He also dismissed rumours of a previously scheduled defection date, clarifying: “The governor did not publicly announce a specific date for joining the APC.”
