Local Govt Bans Sleeping In Oyingbo Market.
The Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Jubril Emilagba, has prohibited overnight stays in Oyingbo Market.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Friday at a security meeting with market executives and members, Emilagba said the move was necessary due to growing security concerns and the need to protect lives and property.
He explained that the ban forms part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety across local markets, stressing that it is a preventive measure aimed at reducing criminal activities and safeguarding traders and their goods.
“No one is allowed to sleep in the market. This directive is strictly for security purposes, to prevent criminals from exploiting the environment,” he said, emphasizing that markets should remain hubs for legitimate business and not overnight habitation.
Emilagba added that the local government would collaborate with relevant security agencies and market leaders to ensure full compliance.
“We are committed to making Oyingbo Market safe for traders, customers, and residents. Security agencies will assist in enforcing this directive,” he noted.
He also highlighted the importance of engaging market stakeholders regularly, saying collaboration with traders is key to maintaining a secure and orderly market environment.
In addition, Emilagba encouraged traders to register with the National Identification Number (NIN) and the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA), describing both as vital tools for identity management and effective security planning.
He further urged eligible traders to participate in the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) e-registration exercise to promote grassroots political inclusion.
