‘Food Is Now Too Cheap’ – Oshiomhole Says Some Nigerians Claim.

Responding to questions on whether the reforms have worsened living conditions for ordinary Nigerians, Oshiomhole maintained that the policies were designed to drive change and rejected claims that they had caused widespread hardship. He argued that many of the criticisms were speculative and not supported by facts.
According to the former Edo State governor, there are Nigerians who believe food prices are gradually becoming more affordable, contrary to prevailing public perceptions. He questioned assertions that average citizens are suffering, asking whether there was concrete evidence of mass complaints.
“The truth is we promised radical reforms. Who are the average persons? You pick these things from the mouth of the people. Have you gone to see people complaining? There are Nigerians now saying food is becoming too cheap,” Oshiomhole said.
In a related development, Oshiomhole also defended President Bola Tinubu’s tax reforms, describing them as consistent with the principles of a progressive government. Speaking further on Channels Television, he said the tax policy shifts the burden from low-income earners to wealthier Nigerians.
Oshiomhole noted that he was among the lawmakers who supported the tax bill that was eventually passed into law.
“The facts on the ground show that President Tinubu’s tax policy aligns with progressive values. It places a higher tax burden on those who earn more while providing exemptions for those who earn less,” he added.
