Awujale: Gov. Abiodun Denies Intimidating Kingmakers Over Support For ‘Special Candidate’.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has dismissed reports suggesting a dispute between him and the kingmakers over the selection of the new Awujale of Ijebuland.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the governor also denied allegations that he intimidated the Council of Kingmakers to favour any candidate.

Akinmade explained that Governor Abiodun only held a respectful consultative meeting with the Afobajes, focusing on matters of mutual interest and ways to advance traditional affairs in Ijebuland. He emphasized that claims of threats or ultimatums, including statements attributed to the governor such as “No Kuye, No Awujale,” are false and misleading.

“The governor’s engagement with the Council of Afobajes was in line with previous consultative meetings with the Olori Ebis, which helped foster harmony and even led one kingmaker to withdraw a litigation,” Akinmade said. “Discussions centred on matters of mutual concern for the progress of traditional institutions, and at no point did Governor Abiodun issue threats or ultimatums. No Afobaje can attest to such an occurrence, as it never happened.”

He added that the governor remains committed to due process, respecting the autonomy of traditional institutions, and ensuring a fair selection process for the new Awujale. “His administration continues to prioritise dialogue, harmony, and the preservation of cultural values. The governor has always shown deep respect for the Awujale’s throne. Members of the public and media are urged to ignore these baseless claims and rely only on verified official information,” Akinmade concluded.
