In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami accused the anti-graft agency of subjecting him to a media trial and infringing on his constitutional right to the presumption of innocence.

Malami, who suggested that the allegations carry political undertones, firmly denied reports that any weapons were found at his home in Birnin Kebbi, describing the claims as false, baseless and unsupported by evidence.

“The Office of Abubakar Malami, SAN, issues this statement to address the continued media trial and the spread of unverified allegations being portrayed as established facts,” the statement said.

It stressed that Malami has not been convicted of any offence, yet sections of the media have persistently presented investigations and speculations as proof of guilt, in violation of due process.

The statement further dismissed reports of an arms cache at any property linked to Malami, noting that no such discovery had been formally communicated to his family or legal representatives, nor backed by any official or judicial record.

Malami also distanced himself from allegations of terrorism, terrorism financing or related activities, describing such claims as speculative and irresponsible.

He cautioned the EFCC against using the media to damage his reputation and urged journalists to clearly separate allegations from facts.

“We call on the media to end trial by headlines and allow lawful processes to run their course without prejudice,” the statement added.

It will be recalled that Malami was rearrested in Abuja on Monday by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) shortly after his release from custody.

The arrest was reportedly linked to a fresh investigation over alleged arms discovered at his Birnin Kebbi residence in December 2025.
