Manchester City and Barcelona legend Yaya Touré has named Nigeria’s Super Eagles as the most impressive team he watched at the recently concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Super Eagles’ tournament ended in heartbreak after a tense penalty shootout loss to hosts Morocco in the semi-finals. Despite that setback, Nigeria had been one of the most dominant teams throughout the competition, improving with each match.

Nigeria’s path to the semi-finals showcased their strength, as they convincingly defeated strong sides including Tunisia, Mozambique, Algeria, and later Egypt in the third-place playoff, demonstrating tactical discipline, attacking confidence, and control that set them apart.

In their quarter-final clash against Algeria, the Super Eagles were so commanding that the Fennec Foxes failed to create a single clear chance. By that stage, Nigeria had already scored 14 goals, more than any other team in the tournament. Their combination of structured play and relentless forward momentum made them one of the most exciting teams to watch at AFCON 2025.

After the tournament concluded, Touré, speaking on the best team he had observed, acknowledged his admiration for Nigeria while also giving credit to his native Ivory Coast.

“I was impressed with Nigeria. They played really good football. The stats show they scored more than usual goals, played full attack, very good football,” Touré said.

“The most impressive for me was Nigeria—the football they played, the goals they scored, and the way their players performed. They had two CAF Players of the Year, played wonderful games, but were ultimately eliminated by Morocco.”

Nigeria’s performance surprised many observers. With modest expectations heading into the tournament due to inconsistent form in recent months, the Super Eagles found their rhythm in Morocco, leaving a lasting impression on fans and pundits alike.
