Fresh from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Adams produced a decisive cameo that changed the game after Sevilla had fallen two goals behind.
Elche started confidently and struck early, with Martim Neto splitting the Sevilla defence to release Aleix Febas on the edge of the area. Febas calmly finished past goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos to give the hosts the lead inside the first 15 minutes.
The home side, struggling for consistency this season with only two wins in their last 13 league matches, doubled their advantage shortly after the restart. Germán Valera found space in the box and slotted home to put Elche firmly in control.
Sevilla head coach Matías Almeyda brought on Adams at the start of the second half, and the move paid off immediately. The 25-year-old pulled one back, ending Sevilla’s five-match goal drought and shifting the momentum in their favour.
As stoppage time approached, Sevilla earned a penalty for a handball in the Elche area. Adams kept his composure to convert the spot-kick, completing his brace and securing a crucial point for the team.
Fellow Nigerian and AFCON returnee Chidera Ejuke was introduced in the 65th minute and helped stabilize Sevilla as they finally halted a losing run that had stretched back to December 17, shortly after both players left for the tournament.
Adams had been a key figure for the Super Eagles at AFCON 2025, featuring in all seven matches and contributing two goals and two assists as Nigeria finished in third place.
