‘Faruk Yahaya Drags Ali-Keffi To Court Over ₦1.5 Billion Defamation Claim’.
Retired Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, former Chief of Army Staff, has filed a ₦1.5 billion defamation lawsuit against Major General Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi (rtd) and several media organisations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The suit was filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, following the expiration of formal demand notices sent to the defendants. Gen. Yahaya had previously requested retractions, public apologies, and a cessation of statements he claims have harmed his reputation.
According to Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman (rtd), former Director of Army Public Relations, the lawsuit also seeks an additional ₦600 million in damages over reports linking Gen. Yahaya to terrorism financing, illegal mining, and banditry.
Court documents confirm that the defendants have been served and are expected to respond in accordance with court procedures.
The legal action follows claims by Ali-Keffi alleging that Gen. Yahaya had ties to terrorism financiers—allegations the retired general has consistently denied, describing them as false, malicious, and damaging to his reputation.
Through his lawyer, Mohammed Ndayako SAN, Gen. Yahaya had given the defendants 72 hours from December 17, 2025, to retract the statements and issue public apologies. Their failure to comply prompted the filing of the lawsuit.
Gen. Yahaya accused Ali-Keffi of acting on personal grievances arising from prior disciplinary matters in the military and reiterated that the allegations were entirely baseless.
He emphasised that throughout his military career, including his tenure as Army Chief, he had no involvement in terrorism financing or any activity undermining national security.
Gen. Yahaya further stressed that false accusations driven by personal motives would be vigorously challenged in court, reaffirming his commitment to law, accountability, and professional service.
